ReplyDeleteI believe exams are quite a bit of struggle for all of us, especially we are still in the process of critiquing our writing skills. You presentation was very well read and the main ideas sure backed up your topic sentence of independence.
DeleteI really enjoyed listening to speak about independence today. I agree with how you feel about this class!
DeleteRegarding writing techniques, I believe I was prepared for this essay. The strategies we learned in class, like brainstorming and outlining, helped me get my thoughts together and organize them in my essay. However, I am not the best story teller. It was really hard for me to put down all the details about my topic and still make it make sense. I think if I spent more time on it, I would've relayed the message in a better way. When it comes time to write my next essay, I will be sure to get started early.
ReplyDeleteStop procrastinating! haha! and start doing your essay early!
DeleteI agree with your strategies, it helps us gain more and more of an understanding and can guide us with our essay
DeleteI agree that putting details in stories can be difficult, it's easier to generalize the story but the details assist in making a narrative more interesting.
DeleteFor test #2, I sort of did a last minute thing with the essay. I did my essay a day before it was do. I was not prepared well, but I did know what i wanted to say and write. The strategies that I encountered was that I jotted down a list, made a long outline, looked through old pictures, and brainstormed. I thought narrative essay would be simple and easy, but as I was writing I had a hard time telling my story. I need to do my essay ahead instead of a last minute thing so that I have more time to correct my mistakes.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you knew what you wanted to write about. We all experience cramming and doing last minute work but we just have to try our best to change those habits to avoid stress. I liked you story and i can relate to it for i have transferred schools quite a few times.
DeleteYour topic seems interesting! You went to different schools and I've always wanted to experience that.
DeleteI did my essay last minute as well but gladly finished before its due date! It was fun and interesting
DeleteProcrastination has got you twice in a row, although your topic sentence was able to make us imagine the frustration you had gone through while attending different schools. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't easy at all.
DeleteI can admit, I did my essay yesterday too. I promised myself I wouldn't do this but the due date came so fast!
DeleteI agree with this. I did my midterm paper 8 hours ago and I regret it. Next time, I will not procrastinate these essay because... "rome wasn't built in a day" right?
DeleteI believe i was prepared for this test because i did it ahead of time, which i failed to do last test. I believe that every strategy we learned in class and in my own time helped me construct a better essay. There is always room for improvement so next time, i will try to get my essay peer reviewed multiple times to get several input and further improve my essay. Today's activity is great because i just love hearing stories and my peers' stories are interesting.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that one. I did not procrastinate this time.
DeleteI think we learn from our last essay on not doing it ahead. Procrastination is part of why I did mine last minute.
DeleteI agree as well that the strategies that we learned in class, help construct a better essay.
DeleteYes, our classmates' essays are interesting, and it lets us know their personality and character.
DeleteHearing our peers points of views on topics are really interesting. Your essay though I bet was really good.
DeleteI can agree that the strategies we learn in class really help us when we compose our essays. Without them, I think it would have been ten times harder to write my essay.
DeleteI agree with this. I procrastinate like a professional and I plan to change that because I need to improve the quality of my work.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed writing test two. For me it wasn't that difficult only because I told a story. The only challenge that I had experienced was choosing a topic. I think I went though about three of the topics before I actually chose one. I asked one of my friends just to choose one and from there I stuck to that topic. The topic I ended up choosing was A frightening experience.Again I procrastinated, I started my essay about two days ago.
ReplyDeleteI agree, narrative essay is enjoyable to write. You can tell your own different kinds of stories in your way.
DeleteYes! Writing from first person was much easier!
DeleteYES, picking the topic was honestly the hardest - -"
DeletePicking a topic was hard for me too! I had to keep looking through the list before I could make up my mind.
DeleteFor test #2, I was prepare for this essay test. Narrative essay was easy for me to write about on my topic. My topic was something I have experience in the past. I know that I was not detailed about my topic, but I hope people would understand what I was trying to say. Today's activity seem like everyone was prepare for this essay. I like hearing peoples experience/stories because It is interesting.
ReplyDeleteSame here I felt that the narrative essay was easy, Especially when you choose a topic that you have a lot to talk about.
DeleteYour essay was good and well understanding. We all have experienced something in the past whether it is good or bad.
DeleteIt was definitely less difficult than the first essay because i love writing stories. I liked your topic because at some point in my life, i experienced that situation too.
DeleteAwww! well then I like how you could relate to my topic :)
DeleteI wasn't as prepared creating test 2. I should have started right after test one, but I thought it wouldn't be due until November. For step one I used listing and free writing. I will make sure that I do not procrastinate prior to the next test. I want to be more confident in turning in my essay, which is what I will try to accomplish on the next essay.
ReplyDeleteI procrastinated as well. I thought we had awhile till test was due and it surprised me that it was due two weeks after test one.
DeleteI also was not prepared when I was creating my essay but your own sounded very interesting. For not being as prepared you did great!
DeleteIt's okay C'lita! We all procrastinate but we learn from every experience and we improve. I liked your essay because it was full of emotions and i'm sure that a lot of people can relate to your experience.
DeleteME TOO! I wasn't prepared at all in this essay. It was kinda difficult for me.
DeleteYes! Free writing was helpful because it made it a lot easier to write the essay.
DeleteSame here, I should have started early on this essay. Hopefully we don't go through this again when test #3 comes!
DeleteI thought that I did the last essay exceptionally last minute until I encountered the narrative. I truly enjoyed writing a story and I think that is why I did it so late, I thought it would be a breeze so I failed to remind myself to complete it in a timely manner. I finalized everything this morning and wrote the bulk of it yesterday and through this experience it taught me that regardless of how late I started, I was able to work well under that pressure. Also I enjoyed hearing my peers narratives and some I felt I could relate to their stories.
ReplyDeleteI agree writing a narrative essay is more fun.
DeleteWriting stories is something i enjoy as well because i believe that through my stories, i am able to teach a lesson to others. Although i'm not an educator, i like sharing life long lessons that motivate my peers.
DeleteI enjoy writing stories too. I also work well under pressure, and knowing that your work is due is a major motivation.
DeleteI can definitely agree! I was in the same position because although I did start late, I ended up finishing faster than I expected. Writing the narrative essay was pretty easy
Deletei agree that the narrative is much more fun :)
DeleteI agree with you. writing a narrative essay is fun because you can express your creativity on paper
DeleteTest #2 was not too hard to do. Writing a Narrative essay is kind of easy because you can write about anything as long as you are narrating it. Writing from the first person perspective is easy, but you're gonna have to avoid using "I" too much. Writing from the second and third point of view can sometimes be tricky because you can confuse the reader with some stuff. Overall, this essay was not too hard.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I think I put too much 'I's' too much on my essay and that is something I forgot.. ops
DeleteIt's okay Klarissa I forgot about it as well and used a lot of "I"s in my narrative. It's our story though so it should be fine.
DeleteI agree test 2 was easier and a lot more fun. But it can get tricky when you want to use I
DeleteYes, the narrative was a lot easier because it's our story, and we're telling it from our point of view.
DeleteI agree! I put more than one "I"'s on my essay.
DeleteI agree! I had a much easier time writing this essay than the first one!
DeleteI most definitely agree, project #2 was a whole lot easier from the descriptive but doing this project I have procrastinated extremely a lot.
DeleteI agree, that narrative essay are easier to write because with descriptive essays you have to avoid saying it in past tense.
DeleteI believed I was prepared for this narrative essay. The strategies that I used were clustering and free writing which made it easier to write a lot supporting details. However, I had to remove so many details because the essay had to be two pages. In today's activity, I enjoyed hearing my classmates' essays because it lets me know their character and personality.
ReplyDeleteI love how working on stage 1 before writing the essay makes it much more easier and organized . And i honestly feel you about getting to know our classmates character and personality by hearing their essay :)
DeleteI also used free writing and I too had to remove details.
DeleteFree writing for myself helps me get into my actual essay and it gives me a nice flow.
DeleteYes, clustering really helps with setting a story up. Free writing is VERY effective if you're the type of person who gets "writer's block". I always get this "writer's block" and when i do, I just free write to eliminate it.
DeleteIn my opinion, test #1 was easier for me then this test! But, I also enjoyed doing this essay because I got to to relate it to real life. I think I could've done way better on this essay, I felt like I didn't try hard enough. I really enjoy writing the midterm reflection essay because without Dr. Rivera going through our lessons, I would be so lost in this class. I think English is my strongest subject for this semester.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely agree. If Dr.Rivera didn't go over the lessons in class, my essays would not make sense.
DeleteI agree, Test #1 is similar to writing a narrative, but the narrative is more informational.
DeleteRelating our life experiences in this essay did make it enjoyable but was just difficult for me due to procrastinating..
DeleteI would not say that I was prepared for this test because I wrote a completely different type of essay. It was the argumentative one. I only found out on tuesday that we had to write a narrative essay that is due two days later, which is today. Although I wrote it last minute, I did not have a hard time writing it. In my perspective I had a much easier time writing this one than test 1.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I had a struggle for this essay as well! I wasn't that prepared for it.
DeleteIt is okay Rosemarie i was not prepared either.
DeleteMaggie is right, it is okay because i wasn't really prepared too!
DeleteI honestly was not prepared for the narrative essay only because i thought we had to do the argumentative essay. I was so stressed out but as i started to write the narrative essay, it became easy and really fun. I love how we took our mid term home and wrote about what we deserve. And I enjoyed hearing my classmates essays. They were really interesting :)
ReplyDeletethe essay was a little difficult at first, but then it became quite enjoyable.
DeleteI can relate! That was the same problem with me!!
DeleteI can relate as well. Doing this project was not an easy task for myself, I found that I am more of a descriptive person rather than narrative.
DeleteYes same here.
DeleteDoing test #2 was a little bit of a struggle for myself, due to the fact that I definitely procrastinated and took my time on starting my essay. I also found it very challenging to start off my narrative essay because it is not one of my strengths, which is okay. By test #3 I am hopeful to start off this test much earlier and to start placing down ideas, in order to keep my paper flowing. Procrastination is everyone’s best friend but mainly mine because I tend to place other things before anything that consist of school.
ReplyDeleteI believe exams are quite a bit of struggle for all of us, especially we are still in the process of critiquing our writing skills. You presentation was very well read and the main ideas sure backed up your topic sentence of independence.
DeleteMaggie, I think we have the same best friend. I noticed that even if I start on my essay, most of my thoughts do no start flowing until I am under a lot of pressure.
DeleteProcrastination is the best!
DeleteThis essay was a struggle for me too. I also need to start on my next essay ahead of time and jot down all my thoughts and ideas.
DeleteTest #2 was a more detailed, story-like essay. I enjoyed writing it due to it giving me the freedom of expressing my feelings. I definitely was prepared for this exam. The strategies I used in the beginning was brainstorming, the big six questions, and made a thesis. Secondly, I was able to produce a rough draft with no discrepancies. Today's activities and just like every other days activities was interesting. Every day is a new day to get better. I always take advantage of all the lessons and discussions that are presented during class.
ReplyDeleteI love expressing my feelings, makes me feel better.
DeleteI had a swift time writing my essay because it was something that I have gone through, and I was able to jot down my feelings as well as the storyline. When you have the freedom of expressing your feelings I found that it is easier to write an essay.
DeleteI enjoy writing as much as I enjoy smiling and making peoples days. I hope today helped a little or shined light on your future endeavors. Writing has become much easier over the past classes I have come to, and I continue to enjoy every class with you all and your company just makes me ecstatic.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I would like to say that I am sorry once again for having missed everyone's presentations. Ill try to make sure it wont happen again. In my opinion I think that the essay for test #2 was much easier to write than the essay for test #1. Test #2 was easier because I learned not to procrastinate like I did for test #1. Being that I didn't procrastinate this time I was able to put more thought into my paper. With test #3 being an informative essay I think that it'll take quite a bit of time meaning procrastination will not be an option.
ReplyDeleteI agree, procrastination should not be an option for test #3 or actually for any of our tests. And I pretty much missed everyone's presentation too.. I was excited to hear our classmates essays!

ReplyDeleteTest #2 was pretty difficult to me due to procrastinating once again.. When I started, I took my time writing it then I realized I don't have a lot of time left. Next time I need to be more prepared and be able to construct my essay right away so when I turn in my essay, I'll feel positive and assured about it.
ReplyDeleteI took my time as well which forced me to rush all of the other parts to meet the requirements.
DeleteAs always on my test 2 I procrastinated. I notice that I like to wait to do my work until the last minute because I feel the pressure and all my thoughts tends to come out. The con to my procrastination is that I end up staying up all night to get my work done which leads to lack of sleep and stress. I hope that I can break out of this habit and do a better job on the next essay. The topic for my expository essay will be on the stressor of the teenagers. I think it'll be better for me because I can relate to the topic and have a lot to say.
