  1. An argumentative/persuasive essay is an essay that is backed up with evidence and facts to get people to believe you, get them to your side, and get them to view the problem/subject the same as you. If I need to choose a topic that was given, I would choose the topic "Cloning should be banned until necessary safeguards and precautions can be established to allow the research to be conducted safely and prudently." because it sounded interesting and worth the research. If I am allowed to choose my own topic, which I would request first, I would choose a topic about criminal or civil case. Overall, today was a day that made me think further into test#4.

  2. An Argumentative essay is a carefully researched essay. The writer wants their readers to understand why they choose a specific side to a topic. For my argumentative essay, I chose the topic that fathers should be allowed the same treatment as mothers in family court decisions. Today, we did an in class survey about how effective online English classes are compared to traditional English classes. Personally, traditional classes are much better.

    2. I can't wait to read your views on the topic your chose because there are so many stereotypes on who should have child custody.

    3. Child custody has always been a sensitive issue for not only others but my family as well. Glad to hear you're writing about it.

    4. I agree. Women and men should be treated equally so there would be no war for both of them.

    5. I fully agree that both men and women deserve equal rights. Your essay will be very interesting to read!

    6. You are right. Both male and female must be treated equally. I also chose the same topic because it seems very interesting to research on.

  3. Argumentative essay is an essay that students need to research on their topic and find an evidence to support their viewpoint. My topic is about " All Minnesota K-12 public schools should adopt a school uniform policy. I chose that topic because I experienced without wearing a uniform in different schools. My topic helps students why school uniform is important in their lives.

    1. I debated about whether or not you should wear uniforms in school or not. There are good points for both arguments so it depends on an individuals point-of-view.

    5. What a very realistic topic you chose.

    6. I have never been to a school that does not require a uniform. It would be interesting to hear some reasons why the school is very strict about it.

  4. An argumentative/persuasive essay is an essay that allows the author to discuss and persuade the reader to go believe that they're opinion is correct. Its name is self-explanatory because the author would use any means of arguing and persuading to prove its point. Within the list of topics, I would choose to write about "Every state should enact a divorce counseling law that requires married couples to go
through counseling before being granted a divorce". I want to elaborate on the importance of marriage and the effects of the divorce upon whether they have children or not. Divorce is often lead to the biased decision on the couple and their uncooperative selves to form an official agreement.

    1. That is a really good topic because last time I wrote about marriages in our assignment and the rate is pretty high. I noticed you copy and pasted your topic. :D

    4. Your topic is very interesting. Your topic is my second option. I see a lot of couples are applying for a divorce paper. In other countries, some people can't apply for divorce because their countries are very strict.

      Delete
    5. That topic makes me think about all these marriages that could or even could have been saved.

      Delete
    6. Thinking about that topic made me think that maybe it would lessen the divorce rate. I am also thinking about writing the same topic because it seems very interesting.

  5. An argumentative essay is an essay that requires the writer or author to do further research on a particular debatable topic and establish his/her point of view on it. The writer has a great deal of research to do as this genre of essay requires that the essay is very thorough and leaves little loose ends on argued points. If I were to pick a topic for this essay, I would probably choose the topics of: All drivers should not be permitted to use their cellphones while driving, or the classroom sizes of 'k' through 5 statewide should be set to a maximum of 20 students. I think both these topics peak my interest due to a common reason. Both of these topics deal with the benefit of people's lives all together.

    3. I want to read the cellphone while driving. That one is a really big issue in today's society.

      Delete
    4. I chose this topic too. We should know that this could be potentially hazardous to the drivers and people around them.

    5. There is a lot of people used their cell phone while driving. They never learned that it will cause an accident if they used their cell phone. I like to hear your first topic.

  6. An argumentative essay is a genre of writing that requires the student to investigate a topic. Basically researching and collecting evidence. It is a type of essay that persuades the readers. If I chose one of the topics that was given, I would choose "Stem-cell research is medically sound but ethically questionable. We should continue research but prohibit the actual use of embryonic stem cells until a later or we should support the recent decision to allow embryonic stem-cell research and federally fund the work to use these stem cells to cure diseases." I think this topic speaks to me the most because there are a lot of diseases that don't have cures yet.

  7. An argumentative essay is a writing process in which the writer has to collect and do research on a topic. After, the writer then has to make sure that when they write the essay the reader should be able to agree or disagree with what the writer is saying. This is where the research of the writer becomes useful because the information he has collected can be used to support whatever topic he is writing about. An argumentative essay, like a descriptive essay, explains itself. A potential topic that I think I might like would be “The classroom size of grades K through 5 statewide should be set at a maximum of 20 students”. I chose this topic because it seems easy and I figure I could find a lot of information about this topic online.

  8. An argumentative essay is a way of writing which you have to persuade the reader to go along with whatever opinion you have on anything. You're basically backing up your statements which would catch your readers attention which thus allowing them to believe that your opinion is the right one. The topic I would write about would be " Stem-cell research is medically sound but ethically questionable. We should continue
research but prohibit the actual use of embryonic stem cells until a later [how much
later?] period. Or: We should support the recent decision to allow embryonic stem-cell
research and federally fund the work to use these stem cells to cure diseases".
I chose this topic because stem cells can be use in many ways possible.

  9. An argumentative essay is an essay in which you collect as much data as possible on a topic you select and provide as many valid points to persuade the reader. The topic I would choose would be that drivers should not be permitted to use cellphones while driving (talking/texting). I chose this topic because I know many people who text and drive and I know how hazardous it would be for them and for people around them.

  10. An argumentative essay is an essay where you have pure heart golden facts on what you are writing about. It's an essay where you persuade the reader into being interested on what you were writing about. An example would be me writing about how driving under the influence is a bad thing because it causes many accidents and deaths for over one-hundred thousand million people all over the world.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's a really good topic. It's scary because I see these kinds of drivers in the not only in the night, but even in the day. It's scary being anywhere near them because you don't know what they might do or what may happen if they get in an accident.

    2. Driving dies cause many deaths all over the world. Driving under the influence is a terrible thing.

    3. I would also choose this topic. There are many accidents that happen from driving under the influence.

  11. An argumentative essay is an essay that disputes a topic and what stance you'd take on it. Generally, you would pick a topic on something you agree strongly on, and research the facts for both sides, and try to persuade the reader why your side is the right side. As for my topic, I would probably choose to write about stem cell research. This is the only topic out of the given that I have learned about and can agree with.

    1. That is good how you chose a topic you have learned about. Stem cell research sounds very interesting.

    3. Driving under the influence is a very well known topic to write about. I would love to hear what you have to say about it!

  12. Argumentative essays require the writer to investigate a topic and establish a position on the topic. The writer must gather as much information needed to, make their story as accurate as possible. For my topic I would probably chose “Drivers in the state of Minnesota who are over 70 years old must pass an annual test for eyesight and physical ability before they can renew their driver's license”. I would chose this topic because people over the age of 70 have risks of being unable to drive.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I also agree because old age does dull the senses and it can be dangerous to the driver and the others around him/her.

      Delete
    2. I agree with your topic. Older people may not have the same vision as before. It can also be dangerous.

      Delete
    3. I was going to write about this topic but was unsure about how I would persuade others to agree with me. It's said that the older you get, your senses slowly becoming inadequate but I don't know what else I'd talk about.

  13. Persuasive or argumentative essays uses logic and reason to show that one idea is more legitimate than another. It attempts to persuade a reader to adopt a certain point of view or to take a particular action. For my topic, I would choose "Drivers driving under the influence". I would choose this topic because I have heard about so many accidents on the news.

    2. I like how you are deciding to use that as your topic because it is what is happening not only in the world but on our island. I think you should talk about prevention and the outcome. Good luck!

  14. An argumentative essay is an essay that presents an argument with its pros and cons by collecting and evaluating evidence. In order to have a good essay, you must find a good topic that has two conflicting points, consider both sides of the topic, gather evidence and use transitions. I would either choose to write about “Fathers should be allowed the same treatment as mothers in family court decisions. Too many times the mother is favored because of the nurturing stereotype” or “Every state should enact a divorce counseling law that requires married couples to go through counseling before being granted a divorce” because I feel that they are the two top topics I’m most interested in. I would also like to learn more about them in details.

  15. An argumentative essay is an essay which you are arguing with the reader to make them believe that what you are arguing about. It has to have many evidences to make it believable. In order to have a good essay, you have to get a topic that has two conflicting points against each other. This way it will show things in different point of views. I am undecided about my topic right now because there is too many to choose from and I want something I can relate to so that I know what to write.

  16. An argumentative/ persuasive essay is an essay that allows the reader to persuade the audience to agree with one idea over the other. It can allow the readers to take action after reading the essay due to facts. The topic I might right about is, "The birth control pill is more dangerous than the medical community had led us to believe and should be removed or restricted from general consumption." I recently just watched a show that dealt with this topic. I believe that the birth control pill has positives as well as negatives. I'm going to try and talk about that in my essay. Hopefully by stating those points I do not go off topic or change it.
