In today’s class, we went to the computer center. We read about cause and effect. It wasn’t anything new to us because we have reviewed it before. There were some exercises after the readings then we went straight to peer review. I cannot believe that the essay is due Thursday. Time surely has passed. Hopefully, I am able to finish a well-written essay because I already brought my essay for peer review

DeleteTime has passed, it felt like just yesterday we were assignment the expository essay. I can't believe next class meeting is the day of the test. Can't wait to hear what your essay is about and don't worry..you'll have well-written essay!

DeleteToday's class, we were at the computer lab. I just like the environment here. We learned about cause and effect and we did some exercises which really helps me a lot. Also, today we are peer reviewing our expository essays that is due on Thursday. I know what to write about but what I'm really having trouble on is putting it into words. Hopefully I'll have something by tomorrow. :( Can't wait to hear what everybody else wrote about though!

DeleteI agree with you. I was also having a hard time putting my research paper together. I think it is because I never really did a researched essay. Most of the essays I have done were all from personal experiences. Hopefully we get it done on time. I know we can do it (:

DeleteIn today’s activities, we went over cause and effect. We discussed the kinds of causes and effects, and the importance of sequence. Then, we had an activity that helped us understand the concept on a deeper level. We also had time to peer review others’ essays. One thing I enjoyed about today was the teamwork between the class presenters during the activity. Another thing that I enjoyed about today was that I was able to finish all of my essay stages. Overall, the class time we had was relaxing and informative, as always.

DeleteI found the common mistakes website extremely useful because I make a lot of careless errors in my papers. Today we worked on a cause and effect activity. I found it very entertaining working with my group, I couldn’t help but laugh at the comments made while going over some effects. This activity helped me better my essay. I love how Dr. Rivera gives us time to peer review however I didn’t have my essay on hand so it didn’t necessarily help me.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Dr. Rivera is very considerate on giving us time to work on assignments in class! I also did not have my essay in hand but luckily I finished it on time in class to get it peer reviewed.
DeleteI agree with you. My common mistakes are always my punctuation marks. the group work was really fun. I could not help but laugh as well. I feel as if we are on the same boat because the per review time is very useful but I forgot my paper so I did not get much help.

DeleteWe all make mistakes unconsciously, that's why we have peer review to correct our common mistake and make our writing become better and better.
DeleteIn today’s activities we reviewed cause and effect. We discussed the kinds of causes and effects and its different levels of importance. We also discussed evaluating the importance of sequence. The sequence in which events occur may or may not be significant. Also, we had to read the “Common Mistakes of English Grammar, Mechanics, and Punctuation.” The common mistakes underlined in the document were the same mistakes I make. Overall, today was a very educational day, so basically the norm.

DeleteIt is very useful. I am going to print this once I get home because I am one of those people that are not good with their punctuation marks. It would really help me. In class today we did a little review of the stages and a little activity of causes and affects of certain issues. We did it as a group and it was pretty fun and funny because of all of our own opinions.

DeleteToday we read about and discussed cause and effects. By determining the reasons and outcomes within our writing, it allows us to investigate thoroughly ideas we write about and base writing in an appropriate order. If there is a cause there will inevitably be an effect. Looking back on my writing, I do this a lot unknowingly, so I agree with what today’s reading was about.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the link, I can’t believe how many mistakes I have been making as a writer. I’m definitely going to use this website as a reference every single time I write until I learn and confident in my writing 100%. Since they’re considered common, I don’t feel as bad! :D

DeleteToday we discussed cause and effects for reasoning and outcomes which is needed if you trying to argue a topic. I also found that the common writing mistakes help because it made me realize that i made some mistakes that could have been prevented. But overall a good learning experience.

DeleteThe article on common writing mistakes really showed me what was right and what was wrong. I found some mistakes that I would be making, mistakes that my teachers from high school have been missing on my work. I should probably go back to St.Paul to show them this piece. Things like use hyphens correctly, use commas correctly, and other things that matter in correct English writing. Today’s class was fun and I would attend class again.

DeleteAfter reading your post, I realized that I was never taught this same material. I remember seeing the material on posters around the classrooms of my high school, but never really taught by the teacher. But now that I have the link to refer to, I can use it to improve my writing.
DeleteThe common writing mistakes listed is provides amazing information. Having knowledge about this will really help my writing schools. Before reviewing the common mistakes, I would have never known how many mistakes I make in writing. Overall, today was a great day because I completed my assignments and had my essay peer reviewed that helps my final draft.

ReplyDeleteIt is almost always that our class is lively and informative. It is as if we're not sharing our thoughts and experiences or sharing, in general, we're learning something useful for our future essays. It was a good day, indeed.
DeleteI found Dr. Jeffrey Kahn’s “Common Mistakes of English Grammar, Mechanics, and Punctuations” to be very useful. I can now use this to correct some mistakes for my class essays. I’m thinking of printing it out so I can also use it for peer reviewing my classmates work.
ReplyDeleteIn class, we reviewed cause and effect, group work, sharing, peer reviewing, and blogging. Although I was late, I was able to do some group work and sharing. I liked how I was still able to interact with the class. I didn’t bring my paper to peer review because Dasha volunteered to. I also blogged, which is my favorite part of the class. Blogging is super fun to do. I guess because it’s around the time we get out of class for lunch.

DeleteThe use of a cause and effect helps best explain why things happen and the aftermaths of the causes. Its basically saying that every decision has an outcome.

ReplyDeleteAs for our class meeting today, a few of my classmates and I arrived at the computer center quite early. The class read about cause and effect. We also did an exercise about writing the cause and effects of athletes using performance enhancing drugs as a group instead of doing it individually. Afterwards, we were given enough time to do our peer review.
We discussed and went over cause and effect. It was helpful and informative for me, because I got much clear about the reasons and effects. Cause and effect is also a common way to organizing our thoughts and discuss.
ReplyDeleteCommon mistakes are the mistakes we always make unconsciously in writing essay. But somehow, peer review with colleague is the effective way to find out and correcting our common mistakes.
