ReplyDeleteA descriptive essay is one of the many major types of essays. In order to have an effective descriptive essay, one would need to be extremely detailed when describing his or her topic. Topics can be about emotions, people, objects, and various other things. Out of the list of topics, I would most likely be most interested in describing my house. I would like to write about my house because it is where I feel most comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI most definitely agree with you Bartola, in order to have an outstanding paper to support what your main topic is about, it is very important to include many focuses so that the audience can get a grasp on what it is your writing about and so that we can understand how the writer was feeling while it was being written.

DeleteA descriptive essay is an essay where you describe something. It is where you can add your personal feelings or experiences. The topic I would choose is happy moments because I can list so many. That would definitely help me write a lot about. Also it's personal experiences which is what descriptive essay is about. Today's activity helped me make my topic sentence more specific. I couldn't just choose a broad topic. It had to have supportive details that would follow it.

DeleteToday the class and I have learned the importance of a descriptive essay and how helpful it is when starting off an essay. I was able to understand the difference between what a subject was, as well as a focus when doing a paper. As the class continued on we were able to do many different exercises which helped me comprehend and obtain what the overall class discussions were about. Todays class session was extremely fun while how it was being explained was easily grasped. My most favorite part was when Dr. Rivera allowed us to do a really fun exercise using the different tools we've been taught for the past week as a ticket to get out much earlier than our expected time.

ReplyDeleteIts extremely hard to choose a topic when your mind is rolling with so many other things to choose from. If it helps write down a list on what it is that interest you, do a bunch of pros and cons about your topic and go from there. You'll be amazed with how many pages you will have, hope this helps. DeleteChoosing a topic from an event in the past is hard because there are so many to pick from. Especially, When there are a lot of good stuff. decisions!
DeleteA descriptive essay is one where you'd have to get the reader to picture whatever it is you're trying to convey by using specific words and just being very meticulous when writing your ideas. A topic i'd like to write about is "Study Routine". I won't lie when i say i'm not the best at studying and i think it would be interesting to write about my process and what i do or should not be doing.

DeleteA descriptive essay is an essay that you could talk about anything that had happened in your life, emotions, feelings, person, situations and etc. You could basically free write about anything that makes you feel confident reading/sharing your stories with other people.The essay gives people ideas that will help the reader to picture what is being described from the person other point of view. In my descriptive essay, I think I would write about an event that was important to you in your youth. I pick that topic because my childhood times were interesting by joining sports events when I was in middle school and through out my high school years. Today's lesson, I enjoyed doing the exercises on the book today. It helped me know what are my subject and what focuses on the sentence. All of these are new to me because my past English teachers have never taught me about these kind of stuffs back in High school. I hope I get to be on track and learn more in this class! Also I enjoy the activity Dr. Rivera gave us earlier just to leave class early haha

DeleteA descriptive essay is basically an essay that describe everything about your topic. If I were to choose a topic it would be about swimming because there are lots of things you can do with swimming. I've been snorkeling and I would have a lot to say about swimming. Todays lesson was kinda confusing, but easy at the same time. You just have to be brief and to the point.

DeleteA descriptive essay is describing the topic in detail, It could be an event in your life, experience, or emotion. For me, a descriptive essay is one of my favorites it let's you detail the topic and the reader gets to feel the emotion and understand the writing. The lesson today was good, You learn something new everyday.TRUTH!

DeleteHappy moments in life sounds like a great descriptive essay to me, life is full of ups and downs and the happy moments are what I believe we live for. It is easy to write about something that once made us happy than one thing that made us sad, I choose to only see the good and live a life that is worth living.

DeleteA descriptive essay is a form of writing that appeals to our senses. This type of essay often consists of imagery which provides the reader a better perspective on what is being described. I would consider talking about a friend, and by friend, I mean my girlfriend and the topic of falling in love because i'm hopelessly romantic. I may also consider writing about food because who doesn’t love eating? Anyways,today's lesson is very important, maybe the most important lesson for writing. Learning more about topic sentences, what make it effective or ineffective, and identifying the subject and focus, will help us improve our writing skills. We will need an effective topic sentence for each essay we do in this class and going over today's lesson was a must.

DeleteWe'll I wasn't in class today because I wasn't feeling good.. BUT, a descriptive essay is when you describe something, someone, a place, emotion etc down on a paper. This is probably one of my favorite essays to write because it's easy to understand. I just hope I find a really good topic to write about when this essay is due. I wasn't there in todays lesson, so can someone refresh my memory? Thank you classmates. :)

DeleteWe just reviewed on writing a thesis or topic sentence and how to indicate whether it is effective or ineffective. It's stage two of the writing process in the book.
DeleteI hope you feel better Anne, we learned on how to make a solid topic sentence by identifying whether a sentence consist of a subject and focus.(Paragraphs and Essays by Brandon & Brandon, 11th edition p.41-43)

DeleteDescriptive essay is one of the four major essays. It lets us create a vivid and realistic picture while describing of a person, place or thing. You have to be really detailed on your topic so it will keep your reader going. In today’s class we moved on to stage two of the writing process. We learned how to write the controlling idea as a topic sentence. The topic sentence has both a subject and a focus. We also did a few exercises on evaluating and writing your own topic sentence; it was confusing but got the hang of it as we kept moving on.

DeleteDescriptive essays are essays all about painting a picture and setting a scene about a specific topic. They describe a point and go in depth about a certain topic. In class we discussed about the thesis and how important it is to not be too narrow or too broad in that sentence. We also did brain stretchers where we practiced using methods like listing etc. I felt like stage two of the writing process is where the essay really starts taking form.
ReplyDeleteBrain stretchers are honestly a lot of fun. Not only do they help you get out of class early, it helps you think outside of the box and appreciate the beauty of the simplest things. I agree with your thoughts on stage two. It definitely is where the essay starts taking fr simply because topic sentences are the main focus of an essay.
Deletelearning about descriptive essays helped me realize and better understand how we can create a picture in our minds describing anything. Before i really did not know what descriptive essay was all about till learning about it in class. Descriptive essay you have to be very specific on your topic so you will get the better understanding of it.
ReplyDeleteA descriptive essay is used to describe something vivid by appealing to the readers mind using the five senses. If I were to write a descriptive essay with the given list of topics above, I would choose to write about my friend. My reasoning behind it is because I would be able to support my topic with many examples and descriptions.
ReplyDeleteReflection: I always get nervous and scared when I get chosen to share my work to the class, but for some reason I felt at ease. In the near future, I hope to be able to stand in front of the class without feeling scared.
You did great Chanel! I know that throughout the semester, we will all become not just friends, but treat each other like family. You'll be able to share you ideas with more ease and no fear. I agree with the reason why you chose your friend as a topic because that's my reasoning behind my topic as well.
