Visit URL: http://mnrivera1.com/Four_Major_Essays.pdf In your own words, discuss what a narrative essay is. View the topics listed. Discuss which narrative topic you would select and why. Please note that this will also be reviewed for Test #2. Further reflect on today’s overall activities.

  1. A narrative essay is an essay telling a story in first person point of view. The narrative topic I would select would either be "your first day at college" or "the breakup of a friendship". I would pick the first topic because it's fresh and new for me and mostly everyone else. I would pick the second topic because I think everyone can relate to losing a friend especially while going to a new school.

    1. The topics you're deciding on what to write about are really interesting especially "the breakup of a friendship". I've been through that as well and to me it never ends well.

    3. Friendship breakups are rough, but it just shows what kind of friends they are depending on what happened.

    4. I've been through many hard friendships and I could totally relate to that topic.

    6. I like your topic. Your first topic is my second option.

    7. I was thinking about writing "the breakup of a friendship", but i didn't want to think of sad it was. It was something I didn't expect to go through.

  2. A narrative essay is an essay that conveys a sense of personal touch, even more so story-like. Because this essay is that of a much more personal piece of work, the topic I would have to choose would be the One Minute of a Football game (or other sporting event.) I chose this topic because there is one particular story that falls in line with this topic that I'd enjoy writing about.

  3. A narrative essay tells a story. It can often be a personal experience. My topic for narrative essay is about " a memorable journey." I chose this topic because I am an outgoing person. Today I learned about the stage 3 about writing. I learned the important rules in writing an essay.

    1. I think a memorable journey is a great topic to write about. Not only does the journey have to be good but it could be bad as well so it leaves a lot of different stories to tell.

    2. That Stage Three of the Writing Process was really helpful.

  4. The narrative essay topic I would probably choose would be: A dangerous Experience.

A narrative essay - In my opinion, is lesser freedom in being able to be expressive and random with one's idea (s), and having more guidelines to follow. Also keeping in mind that the essay is not to be written in a story format can be discouraging to some. In a nutshell, it's a more technical style of writing.

    1. A dangerous experience sounds super interesting! Seeing as you're a cop I wonder what that might be! hahaha

    2. A dangerous experience does sound quite interesting, especially coming from a police officer. I'm really curious to hear!

      Delete
    3. I do agree with you about less freedom of expression, but I'm sure that it's easier than an argumentative essay. You still have the part about personal experience which does make it easier, whereas in an argumentative essay, you need to know your topic inside out, and know the different opinions.

    4. Never thought of a dangerous experience. Now that sounds pretty interesting!

    5. Your topic is not interesting, but I still want to hear your story.

  5. An essay topic I would choose would be my experience of having an injured big toe from the gym.

A narrative essay i think has some rules to follow, not being able to be creative in your way. But I am very much up to this challenge and hoping to overcome this essay.

    4. I second that. I've had my big toe injured from skateboarding and it's not pretty at all.

    5. A narrative essay does have rules to follow, just like any other essay. And as long as you didn't tear a ligament or two (like me), you should be fine.

    6. Oh I know the feeling of crushing a part of your body because just two days ago i crushed my finger. I would like to hear how it was for you to have your toe crushed.

  6. Basically a narrative essay is an essay where you need to focus on the main points of what you're writing about and stick to those points. You shouldn't wander off from the subject or get off track or else it won't really be a "narrative essay." When writing a narrative essay, you should think of it as explaining what your topic is.

    1. I like your explanation of what is a narrative essay.

  7. A narrative essay is an essay in which you tell a story (experiential or personal) which would include the setting, plot, characters, climax and the conclusion. A topic I would choose would be my first day at a new school because I've been to so many schools (from California to Guam). I'd really be interested in sharing my experience.

  8. A narrative essay is basically an essay that tells a story. I believe that it is similar to a descriptive essay, but certain points make a difference between the two. In a descriptive essay, you would use a first person point of view, and in a narrative essay, you may want to use a third person point of view. Narrative essays should also be easy to write since it can also be based on experience. Possible topics that I would like to write about are “A Memorable Journey”, “A Frightening Experience”, “A Memorable Wedding”, or “A Moment of Failure”. My memories for these topics are as fresh as if it happened yesterday. By the way, would anyone like to peer review my descriptive essay? It’s kind of a tear jerker.

  9. A narrative essay for me is basically an essay in which it is told through your point of view or even just a story essay. I don’t usually write stories, but if I had to write a narrative essay I would choose the one of the many adventure stories of my childhood. I would choose that topic because my childhood was full of exciting adventures and it would be relatively easy to write a story on that.

  11. In my opinion, a narrative essay is a type of essay that deals with writing in a one on one perspective. It's as if you're telling a story to someone in a casual way. Topics I would choose would either be "Your first day at a new school or college" or "An encounter that changed your life". For the first topic, I would talk about my dramatic transition from high school to college. As for the second topic, I would talk about experiences that changed me into who I am today.

  15. A narrative essay is like telling a story. It should have purpose. For my narrative essay I would write about my first day at a new job. I remember this experience like it was yesterday. The job was interesting so I have much to say about it. I hope this essay is enjoyable to write.

  16. Basically a Narrative Essay tells a story in such a way that it projects to it's reader a sense of experience; of actually reliving the actual events described. A topic I'd write about would be either (a) "Explain when I admire someone" or (b) "Why are parents strict sometimes."

  17. The way I see it, a narrative essay is an essay about your life. Often, it is not quite an essay, but more like a story. One topic that I would definitely write about would be about a vacation trip from my childhood. I feel like there is a lot to be said about it.

  19. A narrative essay is an essay about a story or an experience. It is usually written from one of the two points of view, first person (the speaker) or third person (person spoken about). Using transitional words helps the reader follow the sequence of the actions. As for my topic, I would either chose "a memorable journey" or "a vacation trip from your childhood"

  20. A narrative essay is about an experience that happened in life whether it was good or bad. It should consist with a purpose, clear point of view and transitional words to help the reader understand the story more. I would choose "an encounter that changed your life" as my topic because after my bad experience, i changed my ways into choosing the right actions to better my future and to stay out of trouble.
