  1. An expository essay is based on evidence you find on your idea. Equipped with the facts you should be able to expound the idea and write the essay. The topic writing in class was a ball of fun. It enabled us to practice writing paragraphs. Although my writing was short it allowed Dr. Rivera to give me constructive criticism.

    1. I feel like the expository essay will take some time to write because we have to state facts about what we are writing about. Today seemed short but it was a learning experience.

  2. I really enjoyed today’s class time! The class was able to choose from a list of topic sentences and had to write a short paragraph. I liked listening to the different opinions of what some of my classmates had shared. Listening to the variety of voices allowed me to look at the topic sentences from different perspectives, which I found enlightening. Since I am currently in the process of writing my descriptive essay, this was another helper for me. I hope that today’s class will help me to improve my draft!

  3. An expository essay is an essay that states facts rather than just an opinion. You have to be able to explain and elaborate on why you feel the way you do about a certain topic. For my expository essay I might write about the consequences of having alcohol on the school campus. I might also ask my friends what they feel about the topic I may be writing about. Today was a good day in class, I felt like my writing is improving even though I only wrote a paragraph.

I was always fascinated with animals and to imagine living as another organism increases my curiosity. Overall, today was enjoyable because we went over stages of the writing process and it succors my abilities to write well constructed papers later in the future.

  7. Expository Essay: To investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expound on the idea, and set fourth an argument concerning that idea in a clear and concise manner through comparison and contrast, definition, example, the analysis of cause and effect, etc.
Totally comprehensible on my end and something I am more than comfortable relating to. Investigating a complaint, an allegation, a crime, or searching for evidence to come to a clear and concise conclusion is similar to the structured ways of submitting a write up for prosecution. In my opinion a very tedious form of writing.

  8. An expository essay is an essay that is used to evaluate something. It is a way to compare facts, backup your facts and convince someone to see the subject from your point of view. In expository essays you are expected to show evidence. In todays lesson we reviewed the writing process and went over topic sentences. We also used topic sentences to create a topic paragraph.

  9. Today during class we discussed developing our skills in writing and supporting our topic sentence in writing an expository essay. It also helps because in writing an expository essay it’s a main idea then you have to back it up with facts and in the end give your point of view. It also helped in how we structure our think and our essay because we have to inform our audience and then that’s when you have to give your point of view on the topic. In my opinion I believe that this helps our understanding of how to structure our essay and write a strong structured essay.

  10. In today’s activities, we learned more examples about the stages of the writing process. I enjoyed going over the stages again because I am having trouble trying to write my essay. I went over multiple free writings but I was not able to connect with any of them. I tend to become bored of my work and that is why I take a while to write an essay. I liked the exercise that we did today because I was interested in topics. Overall, today was a chill day.

  11. An expository essay is an essay that investigates an idea. As the writer, you would have to provide evidence and set fourth an argument when writing an expository essay. Today's class time was pretty interesting because we had an activity that tested our expository writing skills. We had to choose from a list of topics and formulate a paragraph. Hearing the different angles a particular topic can have allowed me to look at that topic from a different perspective. I hope to have more activities like this in the future.

  12. Today's class went by extremely fast! It was interesting and fun. We reviewed on expository essays, which is an essay that investigates an idea. Today, we had to write about a topic of our selection. I wrote about teenagers and why they like music for obvious reasons. It was a great experience to write about this because coming out of my teenage years, I could relate to the topic well. Also, if what I said about the appreciation for music offended anyone, then I’m sorry!

  13. Today, we practiced writing paragraphs using topics that were given to us. Some students shared their writing and it was interesting to hear different points of views on specific topics. Everyone has different thoughts and input about a certain situation. Although I did not have to share today i wrote about the several ways there are to show affection. An expository essay is explaining your thoughts in a way that your readers will understand what you are trying to say.

    1. I liked hearing different points of views too! I wish you had shared, this world always needs a dose of affection and people willing to embrace the topic.

  14. An expository essay is an essay to support in something you believe in. It strongly supports your thoughts about the topic selected. Similar to an argumentative essay, but it lacks research and cold hard facts. Simply put, it's a debate on paper.

A topic that caught my eye was, "Describe some non-material things that make you happy.' I like it because I'm a very simplistic person and it doesn't take a lot to make me happy.

In class, we read to one another a paragraph about a certain topic. Which, I really liked because seeing hearing different opinions and points of view is fun. I love hearing what other have to say and keep an open mind.

  15. An expository essay is like a factual thing. You have to make sure what you are talking about and have actual evidence or documents that can help back up your statement. An expository essay seems like a good thing to write about because you can be comparing things and see the difference. For an expository essay I would write about why parents are sometimes strict since I am a parent. I can understand now why my parents were strict on my siblings and I. It was for our own good and they taught us a lot. Today in class I learned how to better my paper and actually make sense. Before, for my essays I just kept on writing now I know how to structure everything. I had a great time in class!

    1. I agree with you, everyone was just mentioning it's all factual. It's everything you just said. :)
I love the topic you chose by the way. Having experience back up your topic is bound to form a great essay.

  16. An expository essay is a type of essay that a student can describe and explain an idea using real evidence. There are many ways that an expository essay can be done like using cause and effect or comparing.

Out of the many topics listed, I would select number 8, which is to explain why getting a driver’s license is an important event in the lives of many teenagers because I can include some personal thoughts and ideas that I can use as support for the essay.

In particular, I had a difficulty with the class exercise today. My thoughts conflicted whether to present or to not present because I felt my paragraph wasn’t presentable, but I was one of the designated to present. Fortunately, I was saved from presenting. Thank you. :) Overall, I learned a few things when it comes to writing a better essay.

  17. In my own words, I would like to describe expository essay as an essay which explains something true via the facts. It is also to presents your own thoughts and opinions, points of view, ideas, concepts, and arguments on the topic you chose.
After viewing all the topics, I would like to select the topic either "Explain why parents are sometimes strict" or "Explain why you like(or do not like) to work in the team". I guess the reason why I like to work on the topic I selected because it is a bit easier to explain the things you experiencing or experienced. It is also can be a better job if doing something you truly interesting and like.
Lastly, today's overall activities was great. I enjoyed writing the paragraph even though I am not good at that, but for me, it's a helpful way to improve my writing skill.

  18. I agree with just about everyone. This next essay is about facts, not opinions however you can somewhat add your feelings towards the topic. I have looked over the topics but I'm very indecisive. I usually free write about two topics, read over them, then chose which has a stronger argument. I found today's class very interesting, however I feel bad because of the fact that I didn't put too much thought in my share of how I saw the topic about homeless people. I really dislike not giving my all in things I do, even if it's something so small.. I was trying to peer review an essay rather than pay attention to the lesson at hand. I wish I paid more attention..

  19. I came to class late due to an incident right before. Unfortunately, I did not get to participate on that day. When I got to class, I was working on the peer review so I was definitely distracted. However, I did read through today's lesson. To me, a expository essay is based on facts rather than opinions. You would also have to make clear and concise ideas.
