Today, we had our Test #4. I have to admit that I was very unprepared for this test. I hadn't realized that it was due today, and I had to push myself to finish on time. Luckily, I did but this test has taught me to not procrastinate. Writing an argumentative essay is harder than it seems, at least for me. I did learn a lot about my topic, which was cool. Overall, today's class was pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteSame here, i felt like procrastination was the worst during his time, mainly because we had essays that were due one right after the other.
DeleteI was surprised as well when I found out that the test was due today, i wrote my essay Tuesday but I knew what to talk about.
DeleteI agree, an argumentative essay was a lot harder. I found it hard to draw the line between an opinion and research. Since it was the essay it was, finding the evidence to back up my point of view was intense! Glad you go it done! :D
DeleteI also had difficulty writing an argumentative essay, but the pro was that I was able to learn much more about my topic.
DeleteI felt super unprepared also. Last minute writing and a whole lot of procrastination took place this week.
DeleteThis test was very different for me as well. I actually enjoyed doing my research on my topic but it was difficult.
DeleteDefinitely argumentative is harder than the others, at least for me.
DeleteI think the website that viewed common errors in grammar is helpful, because its true how we tend to make common errors with spelling, which really does make a difference in essay writing or writing in general. The test was ok, but I wish I had more time to do a better argumentative essay. But everyones essay was good.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the website was useful, and it may help those who struggle with those common mistakes. I enjoyed hearing everyone's essays as well.
DeleteOh, I feel like I did not respond to the common mistake correctly. I did not see that there was a site to view for it. Whooops!
DeleteI agree with Zya about the site, but I do wish I had more time to write a better essay for test #4.
DeleteThe site is really helpful because I make a lot of mistakes. Hopefully we all can improve.
DeleteThe site was indeed very helpful. We do make a lot of common mistakes that we tend to overlook.
DeleteI wish I also had more time. I wish I was more productive with my time also.
DeleteThe website was useful to me too. I also wish I had more time to do my essay, but I got it done before midnight so I was relieved.
DeleteThe website was very accurate. We tend to misread some of our words when they are spelled wrong because our mind reads it correctly automatically when it is not. I wish I had more time as well because it was very difficult to find all the information I needed.
DeleteI found the website very useful. I also wish I had more time. Only if I we didn't procrastinate.
DeleteThe link given to us was a very helpful tool when it comes to writing.
DeleteI wish I didn't procrastinate as well, I was still doing my essay up to this morning.
DeleteSame here, I wish I could have more time to do my essay.
DeleteI found that this source is very useful because brings to light a lot of mistakes that we could perceive is as right. It also shows how we could improve our writing so that we could get our point across grammatically correct. It also helps that we can improve our writing skills because it makes us more aware of our writing.
ReplyDeleteIn addition i really liked the essay we were assigned because it really brought to light a lot of statistics i did not know especially with using your phone while driving. It also shocked me how many states did not fully ban the use of driving and using the cell phone.
I also discussed that topic as well, and yes, doing an essay with a topic that makes you research, makes you learn a lot about different things and stuff that nobody else knew.
DeleteI was able to learn that homeschooling isn't as bad as people think it is. The different studies that were published brought to light many myths about homeschooling.
DeleteI agree, referring back to the common mistakes made.. I really did not know some of the things I have been doing was wrong, so thank goodness for Dr. Rivera in finding us useful links :D
DeleteImproving our writing should be our main focus, and the link did help with that. It's great that we're provided with these useful links. =)
DeleteToday’s class was a normal test day; we shared our stories and talked about what we learned. I thought it was pretty funny that most of the class talked about phone usage while driving. I had several studies that I could use for my topic, so researching for more information was fairly easy. The link was pretty useful; it helped to learn the different meanings of words that are seen in many people’s work.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the essays that our colleagues used. I feel like only about three topics were chosen because some of the others were not that interesting.
DeleteWhat you presented surprised me that people that are homeschooled do better the kids that are in the regular system
DeleteI enjoyed your choice of topic. It was different and about something that should be considered among students.
DeleteI chose to talk about the usage of phones while driving because I found it more easy for me. Although I should have challenged myself, I thought it was more relatable. Other than that I enjoyed hearing what everyone had to talk about.
DeleteIt is kind of funny that our colleagues used the same topics; I think it's because they can relate to it. The link was pretty useful; it made me realize the common mistakes I make. =)
DeleteYeah, well I had a feeling a lot of my classmates would talk about a common topic between birth control pills and being on the their phones while driving because a lot of people use it and do it.
DeleteMany students did share the same topic, but hopefully some had different views.
DeleteMany of us were having the same topic but different opinions and different ways of arguing.
DeleteI almost forgot we had test #4 today. I already did my essay ahead of time and completely forgot when the deadline was. I did not procrastinate with this essay, but I did forget to have it peer reviewed. Luckily, my friend was very nice enough to do it as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteA common mistake I have made during this essay was the overuse of conjunctions. But I am sure that everyone has this common mistake. The work cited was also a challenge because I also did not cite the work properly. I forgot to write the publisher and the year it was written. I now understand how to cite my work for future references.
Don't worry, you aren't alone because on the first test, I overused conjunctions and didn't fix the error even when it was peer reviewed. At least you got to fix your errors =)
DeleteThat is great that you were prepared for this test. Unlucky for me because I procrastinated too much and found it difficult writing this essay.
DeleteWorks cited was also a challenge for me, but it is better I learn it now than get stuck later.
DeleteI really need to learn how to manage my time. You're one of the lucky ones.
DeleteI am glad your friend came through for you, whoever they are make sure you give them a big hug! :) Also, do not worry, it was an honest mistake. In the end of the day, you turned in what was necessary and you accomplished what you needed to do.
DeleteI know how you feel, citations can be a pain in the butt. Luckily, I learned how to do citations in my junior year of high school so it was familiar to me. Wow, that's great that you finished your essay ahead of time too! Nice!
DeleteI totally did not know how to use word cite. I did bad of that.
DeleteThe common mistakes and tricky choices listed on English Plus made me realize the mistakes I make. For instance, I am a culprit of using "anyway" and "ain't" and constantly misuse the term. I enjoy reading the material discussed in the URLs provided; they make me reflect on the mistakes I make and help me become a better writer. I enjoyed doing the PEA; it was really nice to see all the nice things my colleagues had to say about me. Overall, I enjoyed today's class time and I look forward to the next!
ReplyDeleteThe cite was useful to me as well, but I did not see that there was a site before I made my comment. So I think I did my reaction incorrectly.
DeleteI honestly have errors with using contractions, if you have peer reviewed my essay, the first thing people always see is the contractions that I put, like " shouldn't and can't ". I learned in academic writing that good essays don't use contractions.
DeleteI too, misuse the word "ain't" so I'm glad we were able to view this website.
DeleteJust like any other test day, I enjoyed listening to everyone's topics! This type of essay was pretty interesting. You had to have strong reasons to prove your points. I can't believe this is our last test, which mean we are just about done with the semester!
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy hearing other people's essays. I also enjoy writing essays that require research because I find it easier to write about something when you have the research to back up what you are saying.
DeleteI know! I can't believe that we're almost done! I also enjoyed listening to everyone's topics!
DeleteHaving strong points in your paper helps win the audience. Moreover, you can't go wrong when you have research to back up everything.
DeleteI can't believe it either. It makes me sad because the class was starting to become closer to one another. Maybe when we move forward to our EN110 class, we can reunite!
DeleteThe website can be very useful when comes to writing out my essay. I'll probably use it as reference when it comes to writing. Today we did our test #4. Argumentative are my weakness :( I could say I was somewhat prepared for it. But it was wrong, I'm glad she gave me another opportunity to do the essay. Overall, today was relaxed day.
ReplyDeleteI feel like researching topics for essay are difficult so you are not alone. I had to search different sites, but I ended up using a couple cause some of them were repetitive.
DeleteI feel you on that the website can help when writing out essays because its very useful.
DeleteGood luck (:
DeleteThe website was pretty useful. Sorry to hear you did the essay wrong, but at least Dr. Rivera was nice enough to give you an alternative. =)
DeleteEvery class session seems to be very relaxed, which is a good thing.
DeleteA lot of people say a foreign language is hard to learn, but can you imagine how it feels for people that are determined to learn English? Based on the link, it shows that even those who speak, read, and write in English on a daily basis struggle with tricky choices and share common mistakes. Since I'm one of those people, I really did find the resource useful. :)
ReplyDeleteNot much people read their essays :( ! But based on what they did share, every one was shocked on what they found. OH! and this "Positive Experience Approach" thing was so nice to do. I was really surprised what classmates thought of me :') It made me smile really really REALLY big! :D
I agree, the PEA activity was very sweet. And I am quite sad that no one really read their essays.
DeleteSince English is my second language, you’re right when you said learning a different language is difficult. Even if a person spoke the English language their entire life, they are still bound to make one of the mistakes in the link, which is probably or can be considered normal because the English language is complex.
DeleteIn today's class activity, we presented our test essay's and everyone had similar topics, but they were all interesting. I was getting confused when writing an argumentative essay because it was much similar to an expository essay, but i got it done. It was nice seeing the compliments from my classmates on the PEA. Overall, today was really chill. and awesome!
ReplyDeleteI also had a hard time with differentiating argumentative essays from expository essays. I enjoyed the PEA cards as well!
DeleteI also enjoyed the PEA card because it was a nice way to say good things about our classmates.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I loved all the nice thing people said about me.
DeleteFor today’s class session, everyone in the class submitted their Test #4 which is the Argumentative essay. Aside from those who were doing their in-class test, it was nice to hear what everyone had to say in their essays and what they learned after writing them. Although I started late in writing test #4, I did not have a hard time in writing it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading the link about the common mistakes and tricky choices of English grammar. I admit I have made more than enough mistakes similar to those in the link. I find it very useful because I can refer to it in my future essays and writing assignments. I also found it funny how one can make such a minor mistake.
As for the PEA, I didn't think anyone would actually write that I'm nice, friendly, etc. I expected a lot of "quiet", but it was nice reading what everyone had to say.
You are very nice! Stay Positive, you're a good writer (:
DeleteAs always, I enjoy listening to my classmates topics and thesis. I started late too, but thank goodness I was able to finish it on time!
DeleteI was also surprised about what people wrote about me on my PEA card!
DeleteIn class, today we shared our Argumentative essays like always. It is always a pleasure sharing with my fellow classmates and listening to their topics. This website is very useful and true because we all have those common errors. My PEA card is a very enlightening thing to read. It is very sweet and I thank you all for your thoughts about me. Overall, I had an awesome day!
ReplyDeleteIt is enjoying to hear the different topics and views that our colleagues have. This is one of many reasons why I enjoy this class.
DeleteYou're welcome! hahahahahahahahaha.
DeleteOh, I forgot to thank everyone about the nice comments they wrote on my card. xD I started the day off good too.
DeleteThe common mistakes and tricky choices is helpful in reassuring how to properly use similar words correctly. I too, sometimes get confused when choosing the right words to use.
ReplyDeleteToday's class was fast and I like that. It was interesting to hear everyones argumentative/persuasive essays. Many dealt with texting and driving. My essay was also quite hard to do because there wasn't much information about my topic. The PEA card is also something new and different. I like how we wrote something positive about each other.
the class was extremely fast!
DeleteToday's class did actually go by pretty fast! I didn't notice that. I guess since everyone was focused on the task, we didn't notice the time.
DeleteI found this resource to be useful simply because it's always good to review things we should already know. We as human forget sometimes. I found the PEA activity very interesting and uplifting. On the other hand, this activity was also a downer. Majority of the comments made were, "very pretty, super cute, beautiful, etc." Most people would love these comments but I'd rather here comments on how I am as a person, or a writer because this is English, than how I look. That's just my perspective but I'm happy we did the comment cards. Today's class very relaxing to me because I've been stressing about this essay for the past week or so.
ReplyDeleteMy PEA card also consisted of one word descriptions, which is okay, I guess, considering that we weren't given enough time to think of what to write. It was as if after we thought of what to write, we have to pass it down to the next person.
DeleteRichille, you are one smart, beautiful, and athletic young lady. Whether you were told it or not, know that you are! I think our colleagues just did not have enough time to fully express themselves.
DeleteTest #4 is now complete and I feel relieved. The only thing now to worry about is our upcoming final exit exam. On the other hand, visiting the website given, I realize the common mistakes that we writers tend to make and how we should avoid them. Overall, today seems to be a very chill day.
ReplyDeleteI am starting to get ready for the final exit exam, im sure we will all pass it, but it doesn't hurt to get ready for it.
DeleteThe English language can be very complex. We often make common mistakes because we may not proof read our work or are not very keen to the spelling and grammar of the language. The PEA activity we did in class was very positive. We all need a little reminder of how awesome we are in our own ways. Today, we presented our essays on an argumentative essay, which was interesting to hear how others see certain arguments on specific topics. This was my first essay that I had done at home and it feels good knowing I do not have to worrying about finishing on time.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! The English language is very complex. :) We may think that one word fits perfectly in the sentence, but it turns out that the word similar to it is the correct one. We are bound to make one or many of these mistakes unknowingly.
DeleteI noticed that a lot of the common mistakes that were listed on the website were mistakes that I made at some point during my schooling years. Mistakes like alot/a lot, to/too/two, then/than and a lot more mistakes. As I got older I started to understand the mistakes that I was making, this made me try to perfect my grammar. I loved the PEA cards and I love all the kind words that people wrote for me, I just wish I did the same to everyone else, I was in a rush so I could not think of anything special to say.
ReplyDeleteThe website of common mistakes and tricky choices is useful and it might be practical for me, especially when I am writing. It also reminds me what I need to be careful with, and to put more attention on the tricky choices. The PEA card was an interesting activity that I have never done before, I loved it! I liked all the positive commends from my colleagues. And I enjoyed to hear different presentations in today's class.
