  1. Avoiding run on sentences is important due to the fact that every sentence has it's own meaning and structure. Punctuation should be implemented correctly as well. It is a good habit to practice so the skill could come naturally. In todays activity, I admire the fact that Dr. Rivera is giving us more opportunities to strengthen our writing skills for the upcoming exit exam. We all need to pass that exam to move on to the next english course.

  2. Run-on sentences can give no meaning to a sentence. With that kind of sentence your grammar would not be correct. In a run-on sentence your avoiding the correct punctuation. In a sentence like a run-on, you can have more than one sentence. With today's class activity, the essay topic was not difficult. It was easy to write about and comprehend the topic. Having these practice essays is a good way to prepare us for the actual essay exam.

    1. It is true that run-on sentences can lessen the meaning of a sentence. I did find this topic easier to write about than the previous ones we worked with.

    8. You guys are lucky! The essay was kind of hard for me. It was probably because I got to overwhelmed.

    9. When I read someones essay with a run on sentence, I get so confused on what was just stated.

  3. I once used run-on sentences too often in my writing and it's important to avoid doing so because it can effect the understandability of sentences. Many longer sentences can be broken up so that it is represented properly. Today in class we did another in class essay and I do feel a certain sense of anxiety when we do this; however, it is sharpening my skills in being able to work diligently in a limited timespan.

    2. I agree and I've also made the same mistake myself. Its a simple mistake we are bound to make, but its best if we practice to avoid.

    3. I agree. I feel a bit nervous every time we do in class essays

    5. I get super anxious and nervous too! But you're right, it's only helping us improve our writing skills. By the way, thanks for helping me today!

    6. I agree! Sometimes, less is more. Long sentences does not mean they are meaningful. It is best to have short sentences that are straightforward and easy to understand.

      Delete
    7. I have the tendency as well to use run on sentences not only on essays but when I am speaking.

  4. I never got the idea what was a run-on sentence until high school. These sentences can be a bit tricky at times

    1. True. It could be tricky that is why we have to always correct our essay or make another person correct our essays before turning it in. We think it is right but some people will think it is wrong because they do not understand where you are going from.

  5. The base keeps running running, and so does the run-on sentence that follows. A lot of times my sentences are longer than most that is because when I get in the zone I write what is on my mind right away. I should change some of my habits because it causes me to make some errors and it will be unnoticed.

    1. Running bases like in baseball? If so, in english the points won't count if you touch home plate. I agree though, once we are in the zone of writing, there is no turning back.

    2. That's what a run-on sentence does to you. We all went through that but we do change our mistakes and habits.

      Delete
    3. Sometimes a run-on sentence will make it seem like we are on point, but it confuses the reader point of view. I write what is on my mind also and that is something we should always correct.

      Delete
    4. Run-on sentences could be allowed when free-writing, but you should fix it after you're done

      Delete
  6. We should avoid run-on sentences because the reader would be confused on what you are trying to point out. Run on sentences can make your essay look bad. Longer sentences could be broken into parts by using punctuation though. I learned this from middle school and it is still a habit for me using it. Most of the time we have to shorten our sentences to make it sound better. Today's class activity, the final exit exam practice wasn't that hard for me to write about. Books and experience can be two different things from a person mindset, but they are still both learning from knowledge. It is easy to write and know what you are writing about in the essays from what we know. I hope we have more practice final exam test to prepare for us for the upcoming final exam.

  7. We should avoid run-on sentences because it would make our essay paragraphs unorganized. Our essay would have missing punctuation marks and it won't look good on our essay. Like what the information on the link said, it's easier to have short sentences rather than run-on sentences. The reader would understand more. I'm glad we do practice essays because it really does help us on the next incoming essay and the exam essay.

  8. It is important to avoid run-on sentences in order to keep your readers on track. Run-on sentences tend to confuse readers because too much information is shoved into one sentence. Today, we did a practice essay about knowledge from books and experience. I always have trouble with in-class essays because I get too overwhelmed, having to finish everything in a short amount of time. But I'm happy that Dr. Rivera is putting aside time for all of us to practice for the exit exam.

  9. Run-on sentences should be avoided because it can really confuse its readers and make them want to quit reading it. Punctuation can really help fix this common mistake, but it can sometimes cause more mistakes which is why some people make run-on sentences. Learning how to use punctuation is very important in writing. As for the activity today; I think that books and hands-on experience are both very important, but I think that we learn more from our mistakes.

    1. Proper use of punctuation is important in sentence structure. Learning about punctuation will help lessen grammatical errors

    3. We should avoid run-on sentences because it can really confuse the readers and would not interest them. Using punctuations could surely help with our sentence structures.

  10. One must avoid run-on sentences to write a great essay. Sentence structure is important and run-on sentences ruin that structure. We can avoid these types of sentences by ensuring the correct usage of punctuation and trying to shorten sentences. Today's activity was exhausting. It was difficult to think of what to write on the spot but it is manageable. I believe that today's activity will help us be prepared for the exit exam. Everyone was indeed focused today. Although unusual, t is understandable because everyone wants to finish the practice final exit exam.

  11. It really is unusual when everyone is so quiet. But I agree, we really needed to stay focused today.

  12. Avoiding run-on sentences is important because you need to convey a message in one sentence. You can't put them all in one sentence because then it wouldn't make sense. The reader would be confused, and they wouldn't want to continue reading. In today's activities, we practiced writing our final exit exam. It's good that we have practice every time so it would be a lot easier when the exit exam comes.

    1. It is good we practice our writing. It will definitely be able to strengthen our writing for the exit exam.

  13. We should avoid using run on sentences when we are writing an essay because, the reader cannot hear the writer. It is harder to understand what and how a sentence is being said without proper punctuation and sentence structure. In doing todays activity, I noticed that I had an easier time constructing my essay because I started off doing stage 1 and stage 2 before I wrote my final draft.

    1. I agree, it is harder to understand when there is no proper punctuation and coordinating words.

  14. Run-on sentences is more than one main section that is not divided without any proper punctuation. We need to be able to avoid run-on sentences because if we don't, the sentence structure would not make any sense. To clarify our writing, we need to divide the run-on sentences into a clear, concise sentence. In our activity, we did another practice exit exam. I believe that doing this will be able to help and strengthen our writing before our exam. I am glad Dr. Rivera lets us exercise our writing.
