  1. Today, we had a presentation on MyReadingLab. We were introduced to the program/activity that counts as 10% of our grade. It was interesting alright. I got motivated to study for the test in the MyReadingLab so that I can finish fast and not do so much work. We did some free-writing which was good practice to prepare us to write good essay. Informal day indeed.

  3. I liked today’s exercise activity, free writing. I can make punctuation and spelling mistakes. Being able to write however I want to alleviates me. I personally like to write, but I don’t like following all the rules of punctuation. I’m not a great writer, so when I get criticized about my writing, it kind of discourages me. Free writing gives me the freedom to write however I want. Other than that, the day went by very fast. I think I might take a liking to this class.

  4. Today we learned about MyReadingLab and went into depth about free-writing. We then free-wrote and I chose the subject about drug use and effects. I talked about how some drugs weren't so bad unless you gave it the opportunity. I talked about the good and bad effects of a few of them and mentioned that one time I tried kek.

  6. Today’s activity included reading about stage one of the writing process, freewriting. Personally, this is my favorite stage because it involves no specific structure when you’re freewriting. “If I Were a Traffic Cop” by Betsy Jackson caught my interest. I agree with her free write completely because being a driver can be very frustrating. Later, Shippey and I will perform in front of the class. Hopefully everyone enjoys our littler performance.

  7. I really liked the lesson of the first stage of the Writing Process. I found it really helpful to know that there are ways to gather and organize my ideas before writing my actual essay. For the most part, I would just write my final draft without doing any of the other stages. Now knowing that the freewriting process is important to gathering ideas, I’ll start to use this technique to help me write my essays in a more cohesive and interesting manner.

Second we got to read out loud and do annotations I think. Lastly we got to free write, it was kind of hard to figure out what to write about. Overall I enjoyed my day in the lab again.

  9. Today's class was very interesting and informal. We started the day off by talking about the first stage of the writing process. Free writing is a technique in which a person writes continuously for a set period of time without regard to spelling, grammar, or topic. So basically it is like brain storming and talking about what you want to. I found myself doing this a lot for assignments given to me in high school. Today was a good day!

  12. Today's activities were fun. Before we began class we had a presentation on the My Reading website, which I thought was very informative. We then started off with one the subject’s on the writing process. We covered the subject of free write. Free write is something we do before we do the essay. Which the writer just writes on what is in their mind or what is on their mind that is along the lines of the topic. Overall I learned a new form of free write and also I learned how to get on my reading website.

  13. Today’s lesson was pretty interesting because using the writing process really helps you out and keeps your story or writing on track. You will not be confused and you won’t be going back and forth on writing what you want. What else helps out a lot is doing the free writing; you are able to write everything that is on your mind then put it all together and create a good story. The free writing about the drunk drivers is one that was interesting because what she wrote about was true. Drunk drivers need to stay in at night and not go out in the streets driving because they can hurt someone especially when they are really drunk. The cops should have dui checkpoints every night so that the drunk drivers can actually think before they drink. That would be a good idea for the safety of our people.

  14. Today in class we practiced on freewriting and some people had to share their freewriting works. I made mine about an event important in my youth. I chose to make it more about the company that makes the movies than the movies themselves. I was talking about how growing up is the coolest thing when you’re still a kid, but then you start to feel different about growing up when… You’re actually growing up. I thought when Shippy shared his freewriting work with us was something really cool because I knew what he was talking about. I’m a big time Doctor Who fan as well. That’s pretty much it for today so hopefully next time we’ll have more fun just like today.

  16. Reflection: 09/02/14
Today was about Freewriting under the Stage One Strategies. Having to attempt in Freewriting on a broad topic and the possibility of sharing did not turn up as I expected. During the Freewriting portion, I rambled as I wrote, re-read what I wrote, and changed my ideas one too many times. In short, I did the opposite of what was reviewed and stated.

On top of today’s lessons we also viewed a power point presentation on My Reading Lab conducted by Ms. Janice. The emphasis on the two hour reading session for the Path Builder Diagnostic Test and Lexile Locator Diagnostic Test is no joke! It was more like 3 hours. And the reading continues.

    ReplyDelete

    1. That is why if we can get a good score on the test then we can skip those reading hours. :D

    2. I was already worried when the presenter told us the tests were going to be 2 hours each. Hearing that its more like 3 hours makes me dread the day I take those tests even more.

      Delete
    3. Edward. I was stoked to attempt on taking the diagnostic test, luckily this portion allows the reader to take a break and resume a second or third time. I will admit, reading online versus reading something tangible like a book, essay paper, or document, etc. It becomes tasking to the eyes especially if you have to keep scrolling up and down to ensure you've understood the reading. Great luck and hope we all do well!

  17. Today class discussion was about freewriting. I really enjoyed this lesson because it is exactly what it says “free writing”. This form of writing allows you to write freely without having to stop and check if it makes sense. I enjoyed the freewriting assignment because it allowed me to write anything that came to my mind about the subject that I chose. We also learned how to create a My Reading Lab account. The presenter was very clear with her instructions. The PowerPoint presentation was also easy to follow. Some student agreed to perform in front of the class next meeting. I am looking forward to seeing their skills and talents.

  18. We started off with a presentation of MyReadingLab by one of the tutors here in the university. We then read about “free-writing”. I have learned that we are able to write whatever that is in our mind without stopping and how it does not really concern the right spelling or punctuation. From there, we did exercise 1 and I chose to write about an event that was important to me. Overall, I have learned a few things today that would help me improve in my writing.
