  2. In class today, we read about the writing process and reviewed the concept of freewriting. I have learned about this before but it was nice to go more in-depth about the subject. I always enjoyed this stage of essay writing because it helps get my thoughts organized before diving into the actual paper. I wrote about ways of disciplining children and tried to keep a positive approach with it. I enjoyed listening to others share what they had wrote and related to each person in different ways.

    1. Yes, I agree with being organized as well.

    2. I agree, listening to others express and tell their essays helped me understand how to write a free-writing essay. This stage of writing made me understand what I am writing about.

    3. I absolutely agree with what you wrote.Your perspective on how children should be disciplined is something that all parents should consider doing. I'm not talking about just here on Guam, but the entire world.

  3. Today class was interesting! I'm still trying to get to know everyone's name so It is helpful that they are saying their name before they are reading. I also like free writing because you get to write what ever you like without being judge by someone. It is your own thoughts and your own personal life that you have been through on your own point of view. I like it when my classmates shares their thoughts about their free write. It shows that we all have different minds what to say and we have different experiences. I hope we read more about this topic and have many more free writes to present in class. Tyler likes to make the teacher laugh most of the time which is a good thing for all of us. It really makes my day.

    1. I agree, it's always good to be able to express your thoughts without fear of judgement. This is why i love this class. Everyone is willing to listen and understand what the other wrote and his or her point of view.

      Delete
    2. You should not be judged by anyone people that judge usually do not know the individual and like today I try to connect with everyone, like I said I love communicating with others because everyone has a different story, it was interesting to hear the others opinions I agree. Great chatting!

    3. One of the main reasons why I love attending this class so much is because we are all free to be ourselves and not have to worry about anyone judging or making fun of us. I most definitly agree, Taylor is such a character always knowing how to brighten everyones day including Dr.Rivera.

  4. I thought in today’s discussion about free-writing helped me as a person that you do not have to think about what you want to write. I got to hear five of my classmate’s essays about their topic and heard their free-writing. As I typed my essay I began to express my thoughts without thinking or taking time to think about the topic. In my topic I choose “social media”. I realized how social media is important to us. It made it easier to talks among other (family, friends, teachers, classmates, etc.). Social media has grown every year and made our lives better.

    3. Yes, before being apart of the class when I saw I was placed in EN100 at first i was a bit intimidated. Thinking in order to meet the qualifications to pass EN100 I must be able to write essays that are beyond words but coming to class and reading and actually doing free write paragraphs it allows me to see that I can be a good writer as long as I start from the bottom and working myself way up. Great class session!

  5. I really enjoyed today's class lecture and discussion. I really do enjoy freewriting because you can write about anything that comes through your mind, I guess. We'll for me, if I'm feeling emotional or angry, I write my thoughts down on a piece of paper, reread it, and then throw it away. That's how I let my anger and my emotions don't get the best of me. I'm sure some people do that too, right? Taylor is such a clown in this class, thank you Taylor. :)

    1. I agree with you. Taylor is a class clown in this class. He knows how to make the teacher in a good mood and also his fellow classmates.

    2. Writing your thoughts down an throwing it away is a very interesting and innovative way to let your anger out. I usually keep my emotions to myself, but I think I'll try this technique some time.

    3. You know Anne brightening peoples days is a passion of mine. I know how to have fun in class at the right times, but when it comes down to business i'm all seriousness. It's all about the right time, and hope I do not distract you too much (;

      Delete
    4. That's really smart of you Anne, to write down your emotions, re read it and throw it away. It allows you to vent whenever you feel lonely, upset or maybe even overwhelmed. I'm going to try to do that the next time I feel bothered about something. :)

  6. I enjoyed learning about the writing technique, free-writing, in class today. I personally always have trouble getting all my thoughts written down in my essays, so free-writing should help me get everything from my brain written on paper. I also delighted in hearing my colleague's free-writing assignments. Their stories were interesting and showed me the different ways their brains work.

    1. I also have trouble writing down all my thoughts in an essay too. Free writing definitely helped me get my thoughts written down.

    2. I agree with what you said about seeing the different way the brains of our classmates work. I found it very interesting the different approaches each person took to the topics.

    3. I love how we have the same problem but im pretty sure you and I aren't the only ones with this issues. I find it very difficult at times to start an essay off because during the time of me trying to focus on what I want to write my brain tends to be filled with so many ideas and things to say causing me not to be able to write. Listening to many of our classmates share I too was amaze with how they were able to write so differently but yet all were lovely.

  7. Today, we learned more about freewriting. Freewriting is extremely important because it helps us express our ideas freely through writing. It is not contructive, therefore, mistakes and random ideas are acceptable. We often undergo "writer's block" and freewriting is really useful in gathering our thoughts together. I enjoyed listening to what my classmates wrote on our free writing exercise. It gave me a better perspective on their point of views and reflections towards the topic they chose. I believe that this exercise is essential to writing the four major essays that we'll be doing in this class.

    1. I agree about your statement about it is important cause it expresses our ability to be free in writing

    2. You're right! Free writing is necessary to write our four major essays.

    3. Your statement about writer's block applies to me because I undergo that all the time especially when writing essays. I often have too many ideas and have trouble translating them into words so free writing is a great technique to help with it.

      Delete
    4. Your right Michael, especially when it comes towards writers block or shall I say, "blah.blah.blah"! I love how we were free to write whatever that came to our mind. Whether it were good points or random words, we were allowed to write everything down. Doing this allowed me to concentrate but more so i had so much fun.

  8. Today opened up my eyes a little more as I understood others opinions as well as learning more about others. I enjoyed having a little chat with the girls at the back cause I got to learn a little about them and find out that although they are quiet they speak up when someone needs help. I enjoyed class today it was great and I hope it just gets better from here. (:

  9. In today's activity, I was more focused on the subject of free writing. Only because it helps one express their genuine feelings and emotions. It opens up the mind for others and is like a warm-up before a class discussion.

  10. Free writing is something i actually enjoy doing. It helps me express my feelings during hard times and good times as well. I find free writing fun and creative . Unlike essays, i get so pressured to the point where i forget what to write down. In today's lesson, i found it very fun and interesting.

  11. I enjoyed today's topic. I've always liked to free write since high school. Instead of writing essays that you have to research about and that just takes too much of my time. I'd rather just prefer writing whatever's on my mind.

  12. Today was pretty fun. I really enjoyed doing a free write only because you can write whatever is on your mind. I feel that free writing really helps with writers bock. I also enjoyed listening to everyone. I really like that our class is open and funny.

  13. In today's class, when we read the freewriting about drunk drivers, I understood what the writer was feeling. I often have near death experiences because of bad drivers. I drive at night because I have to pick up my sister from work. Many drivers often speed or swerve into the other lanes just because they want to. It really makes me mad that they don't think about anyone other than themselves. Hopefully, they realize what they're doing wrong before it's too late.

    1. I most certainly agree with you Ina, as I was reading it I couldnt help but relate to the writer because many of the words that she underlined was basically how I felt.

      Delete
    2. I also find frustration at the fact that people drive under the influence nowadays. I believe drunk drivers are completely ignorant for putting their lives, along with the lives of people around them, in danger.

      Delete
    3. I guess i can relate to that somewhat about that feeling of near death. Like i said in my free writing assignment i thought i was going to die when really it was just a bad pilot landing the plane

  14. Blah.Blah.Blah! Free writing was our main class discussion and I got to say it was pretty fun and quite interesting as well. As class first started we were able to read as a class to understand how to free write, after we were done Dr.Rivera allowed us to pick certain topics/subjects on our textbooks to give us the opportunity to write. At first it was incredibly hard because my mind is often filled up with so many things to say. But as soon as I picked a topic that was interesting my fingers couldnt stop typing.

    1. It's always a great feeling when we find the rhythm in our minds that just let us type away.

    2. It feels good to write out what your mind is trying to say. It's almost like you're venting to a person.

    3. The way you started this entry with "Blah.Blah Blah!" made me smile and drew me in to read and respond. I definitely agree with what you said about picking a topic and the ideas flowing seemingly thereafter.

    4. Yes. We get so lost on our writing that we think it doesn't make sense, but the truth is that it not only make sense, it reflects our perspective on the topic. Based on what i heard today, every point of view made sense.

  15. Man was I nervous to read my free writing exercise, especially because I didn't know what I was doing. As I typed all my ideas on my topic, i didn't feel that it was a touchy subject but when I read it aloud, an emotional cloud had came over me. Writing this essay made me realize that I need to focus on school so that I can get out of this island and start the life I want to live.

    3. Yeah, i also agree that what you said was nothing to be ashamed of. I think many of us can agree with that fact of focusing in school. When in high school i took many things for granted and would go back and change if i could.

    4. I agree, you did a great job with your essay and with reading it aloud. You were very clear and verbal.

  16. Today's free writing exercise was very helpful. I now know that instead of stopping and getting hit by writers block I can just write "blah, blah, blah". I think that free writing is very important when writing a paper because you can get all your ideas out and just let it flow without stopping. Today, I was also reminded that we should really think about what we say before we say it. Other then that I think this class is going great and I look forward to the next class.

  17. Free writing can be difficult if we are not able to groove with the topic given. It is very true that without a college degree, it is very difficult to obtain a life fulling career. Guam although a very kind and loving place, can be very dark and cruel. Today I was reminded how its not the words spoken that hurts but the words that aren't heard. Although many of us may be bullied or were bullied, eventually we all should grow in to understanding adults. Well, if anyone needs an ear to simply just listen, please to hesitate to ask. - JP

    1. I agree. I've been bullied too i didn't fight back because I know that i'm more matured than them. I believe that maturity is one of the key ingredients to success. If a person is matured enough to make wise and practical decisions such as knowing one's priorities, then that person has a better chance to go far in life.

    2. I am glad that we are all here today and are able to speak about our experiences. Sometimes we just have to brush them off or simply be the "mature" one.

  19. Todays class we learned that recursive is a process of writing, meaning to go back and forth. We also discussed that free writing is an exercise that lets us write down all our thoughts and ideas within any choice of subject. It was interesting listening to my classmates read their free writing; they had great stories to tell.
